INELFE, a joint venture by the Spanish electricity operator and transporter, REDEIA, and its French counterpart, RTE, is carrying out the Biscay Gulf Interconnection Project, which will increase the electrical exchange capacity of both countries by connecting the Gatika electrical substation (Bilbao area) with the Cubnezais substation (located north of Bordeaux).
The interconnection will be made by means of a 300 km submarine cable as well as two small sections of underground cable. At both ends of the link, converter stations will be installed to adjust the direct current through the submarine and small sections to the alternating current of the transport networks of Spain and France.
A team of BOSLAN HSE experts supports INELFE in the design and supervision of Health, Safety and Environmental measures that ensure proper construction works of the links and converter stations.
